Vision boards. While they may just seem like a new fad, they can be a serious game changer in helping to set up both your business AND your life in general, for success. Here’s why:
Visualization can be such a powerful tool! In fact, Athletes often use this to train and it's actually been proven that mental practices can be just as powerful as physical practices. Crazy right?!?
You know the phrase, "out of sight, out of mind"? When you don't see something for a while, you will forget about it. So while you may have set some pretty stellar goals for yourself for the year, it's easy to get side tracked and lose motivation if we're not constantly reminding ourselves about those goals!!
CUE: Vision boards!!
Now don't worry, we're not asking you to make a big tacky magazine cut-out poster board for your bedroom wall. (I mean you can if you really want to!) but we have designed a fun template in Canva here that you can use as a screen saver or lock screen for your phone or you can even print it out and stick it to your fridge as a reminder every day of where you want to be headed!
You might want it's focus to be career only, family, health, financial or a combination of all! That's what I did for mine! A mixture of some big life goals for both our business and life in general that I really want to be intentional about moving towards!!! Here's what it looks like:
But back to the topic of why we feel vision boards are so crucial to keeping you on track for hitting your goals... here's why:
01 They heighten motivation -- If you struggle to stay motivated as a business owner, a vision board is an absolute must-add to your to-do list — seriously, pause your reading and go add it right now! It can be so easy to get wrapped up in the technicalities of the business world, that many of us tend to lose our connection with the passion driving us to do all the work in the first place — Sometimes we just need to touch base with the dreams and goals that started it all, whatever they may be. That’s why a vision board is such an amazing resource. For starters, they offer boundless creative liberty; they’re fun to make, and the end result can represent and look like whatever you wish. Having something so personal connected to your business, something so rooted in your goals and passions, makes it nearly impossible to ever feel like your work is directionless or arbitrary. Instead, one good look at your vision board in the morning and you’ll instantly feel geared up to take on the work day!
02 They force you to think about what you really want -- Vision boards are a great thing to try your own hand at if you’re looking to narrow the focus of your creative vision. The process of making a vision board involves a lot of decision making, forcing you to consider things like your branding aesthetic, marketing strategies, short term and long term goals, and the how’s, why’s, when’s, and where’s of your business direction. Hence, through making a vision board, you’ll be able to work out all the finer details for your business that may otherwise go unconsidered or altogether forgotten about.
03 They act as a constant reminder of your WHY -- If you've been following us for any length of time, you know we preach....DEFINE YOUR WHY!!!! If done right, your vision board will perfectly embody your values and intentions as a business owner. This means that each time you refer back to it, you’ll have a clear representation of the value you should be seeking to add to the lives of your clients and audience. Perhaps more importantly though, your vision board will remind you WHY you are doing what you are doing, and as a result, help you to ensure you’re staying on track to fulfilling your brand’s purpose to its fullest extent!
